Rappers, especially Kanye, love to premiere new tracks on stage, and since it's never been easier to rip a performance, it's up to the listener to choose which goes harder. What will become of "All Day"? Will we grow to love it, or will Kanye actually bow to our demands as he's done before (remember when "New God Flow" had that corny chant at the end) and re-record? We'll have to wait and see, but this isn't the first time a song has incited this debate.
The whole point of a performance is to imbue the track with extra energy, otherwise why would we ever go to concerts? But if our first exposure to a song is a wildly energetic or deeply passionate performance, it's nearly impossible not to compare it to the studio version. But such is the risk rappers run of underwhelming their fans when they premiere a song with a live performance. Is the studio version lacking in energy? Well, considering he probably recorded it in the crib, sans 30 goons (save the Kardashians) and two flamethrowers, of course it is. Rap fans sure love to nitpick, don't we? It's not enough that Kanye premiered the near-mythical "All Day" with a fire (pun intended) performance then quenched our thirst a week later with the crisp CDQ.
